Are my photos uploaded?

No. Decoding and WebP encoding run in your browser. Files are not sent to zhanghe.dev or any other server. The page loads a bundled WASM encoder, but your images never leave this device.

Which formats are supported?

Input is JPEG, PNG, GIF stills, WebP, BMP, and iPhone HEIC/HEIF. Output is WebP. Animated GIFs convert the first frame only. SVG is not converted, and animated WebP is not produced.

Is lossless actually lossless?

Yes. Lossless mode uses bundled libwebp lossless encoding. It is not the quality slider at maximum. Lossy mode uses a 50–95 quality slider.

Are capture data and GPS kept?

No. Orientation is applied to the pixels. Date, GPS, and other capture fields are not written into the WebP. This is the default product behavior, not a toggle.

Can I drop a folder?

Yes. The tool walks folders recursively and keeps relative paths in the ZIP. Each file can be up to 40MB, and a batch can include 80 photos. Extra files are skipped with a notice.
